TO: World Leaders, International Institutions, Faith Leaders, and People Everywhere

 

For 31 years, the people of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have suffered in silence a brutal and largely ignored war. According to President Donald Trump, 8 million lives have been lost, countless women and children have suffered unimaginable violence, and entire communities have been devastated by what can only be called a silent genocide.

In 2025 alone, renewed violence has displaced over 700,000 people, forcing families to flee with little more than the clothes on their backs. More than 10 million people in eastern DRC are now facing acute food insecurity, as ongoing conflict cuts off vital supply routes and humanitarian access. At the same time, women, girls, and infants have suffered sexual violence, with reports showing a 700% spike in conflict-related rape cases during just the first few months of 2025.

 

We acknowledge the extremely significant role played by President Donald J. Trump, particularly through the Rwanda-DR Congo peace deal signed on June 27, 2025, which marked a critical step toward resolving the conflict and promoting peace in the region. While the agreement brings renewed hope and increasing voices of support for peace, continued violence and widespread suffering demands more leaders, institutions, and nations to add their voice and action to support lasting peace.

This is not a distant tragedy. It is one of the deadliest and most underreported human rights crises of our time — and we must not look away. We shall be silent no more!

We stand united in calling for leaders everywhere to:

 

1. Officially recognize and condemn the ongoing genocide in Eastern DR Congo.

2. Honor and fully implement the Rwanda–DR Congo Peace Agreement signed by President Trump on June 27, 2025, ensuring that its commitments lead to real protections and peace for the people of Eastern DR Congo.

3. Pray and support the essential work of faith leaders and local communities as they bring healing, advocate for justice, and help rebuild hope across Eastern DR Congo.

4. Hold accountable all perpetrators of mass violence, war crimes, and exploitation.

5. Demand an immediate cease of financial support for all armed groups operating against the Democratic Republic of Congo and her people, including M23 and others.

 

The world cannot continue to benefit from Congo’s wealth while ignoring the bloodshed of the Congolese people.

 

Every name added to this petition is a voice for the voiceless. We are aiming for 1 million signatures to shake the silence and demand change.
